Hello fellow Mustangs!
My name is Tanya Eckstein, and I have been a band director for 37 years. I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin (Hook 'Em Horns!) with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education. After teaching several years, I returned to school and received my Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
After 31 years as a head high school marching band director, my husband and I retired and moved to Texarkana to be near our children. I realized how much I missed sharing my love of music with my students, so I returned to teaching part time here at Red Lick Middle school. I love being a part of this wonderful school.
In addition to teaching, I am also a performing musician and singer. I have performed with the Austin Symphony, the San Antonio Symphony, many church orchestras, and local bands. I currently perform with the Texarkana Jazz Orchestra.
My husband and I have three grown daughters: Emily, Anna, and Lauren; two sons-in-law Demian and Kevin; as well as our granddaughters Elia and Clara.
I love being a Red Lick Mustang!
When words fail, MUSIC speaks!
