5th and 6th grade GT class has been planning, designing, and creating their own board games. Their goal is to create a game complete with rules, instructions, and all the pieces for other students to play. The games will be completed and presented to the 7th and 8th GT students as marketable games for others to play! It has been a rowdy and fun experience!

Hello Herd! As you are well aware, April 8th will be the day of the solar eclipse. We are planning to have school and participate in the eclipse. We have been teaching lessons and we have purchased glasses for all the students and staff. There is an "opt-out" form coming home if you do not want your child outside watching the eclipse. Each campus will take those students to the cafeteria with supervision. With yesterday's announcement from TISD about their closure, we are going to give another option to our families as well. If you are concerned about the safety of your child, on April 8th, or you want to experience the eclipse with your child, the district has an option for you to check your child out of school after 10 am and attendance will not count against them. We would like them here in the morning to count towards our state funding but also want to work with our families. We believe we have a safe plan but understand if you are concerned. If you are interested in this option, please contact your campus so that they can plan accordingly. We will be able to create a list at each campus and expedite the process. If you come to collect your child on Monday, we hope you enjoy your time with them. If you choose to leave them here to experience the eclipse with us, please know they are safe. Take care and have a blessed Spring Break.

This past Saturday, a team of 4 students competed in the Texas Region 2 State Championships for VEX Robotics at Miller Grove Middle School. As this is our first year to compete in VEX, we were elated just to get the invitation to compete. At the competition, we ran into several difficulties leading us to not do as well in the tournament bracket as we would have liked, but our kids kept smiles on their faces, good sportsmanship, and a humble attitude. During the interview process, they communicated their challenges and how they were correcting the issues. This interview, coupled with their attitudes throughout the day, earned them the 2024 Texas Region 2 Middle School Championship Judges Award. The team, known as the Micro Mustangs, consisted of Ian Williams, Atticus Aslin, Lilyann Dyer, and J.L. Gonzales. These kids represented what it means to be a Mustang, and I am super proud of them!
