The Red Lick Mustangs faced off against the North Lamar Panthers and the McLeod Longhorns last night at McLeod High School. Here are the results:
Game 1
Red Lick Mustangs 8 North Lamar Panthers 2
The Mustangs got off to a hot start in the bottom of the 1st inning, after trailing 1-0, to come away with the victory by a final score of 8-2. Luke Wasson started on the mound and earned the win, giving up just one hit in two innings and striking out five batters. Will Dougherty closed the game in the 3rd with a scoreless frame and had two strikeouts on the mound as well. Wright Telg led the Mustangs at the plate with two hits in two plate appearances and Luke Wasson had a bases loaded triple in the 1st inning to score three Mustangs. Stone Cauley added a single in the game and Owen Thomas had a run scored in the game.
Game 2
Red Lick Mustangs 5 McLeod Longhorns 2
The Mustangs carried the momentum into game two, coming away with the win by a final score of 5-2. Luke Wasson came through with a 3-run home run in the first inning and led the Mustangs on the day with 6 RBI's in both games combined. Will Dougherty started on the mound and pitched one inning and Stone Cauley came in relief for the final two innings. Both pitchers gave up one hit a piece and struck out two batters each. Tyler Swenson, Will Dougherty, and Branson Browning added a hit each for the Mustangs and Liam Tye added two walks and two runs scored in the game.
With the two wins last night, the Mustangs move to 3-1 in district play. The Mustangs will be back in action next Monday, 9/14, at North Lamar. The Mustangs will play North Lamar at 4pm and game two will follow. Go Mustangs!!
